Visions
of the Past – On May 30, 1959, the Western-themed amusement park Frontier City opened on Broadway
(Route 110) in North Amityville. This postcard was described as "A posse forms at the O.K. Corral in Frontier City, New York's western town in Amityville, Long Island."
Other features included the Ox Bow trading
post, Merry Melody toy shop, and Tumbling Tumbleweed flower shop. Of course, it also had a Sheriff’s office and jail.
Reminiscent of something from the
movie Toy Story, the attraction of cowboys and wagon trains soon gave
way to astronauts and space travel. The theme park was open for only two seasons,
1959 and 1960, until its closed down.
Postcard from the historic collections of the
Town of Babylon History Museum, Town of Babylon, NY.
