Deer Park Schoolhouse (Visions of the Past)

Visions of the PastThe one-room schoolhouse in Deer Park, erected in 1893 on the east side of Deer Park Avenue, between the railroad and the present Lake Avenue. At that time, School District No. 7 encompassed the present Deer Park and Wyandanch School Districts (the growing district was divided in 1923). The schoolroom was 27’x30’ with an 8’x24’ entry and cloakroom. When a new school was constructed in 1930 (part of the present administration buildings), the old schoolhouse was moved down Deer Park Avenue for use by SS. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church.
